A nice wooden, weighted, clockwork metronome manufactured in Bavaria or someplace like that would be my dream metronome, but any of those others might make fine a substitute if one is willing to forgo some of the finer nuances that come available from a traditional metronome.

Should this be done while only using the headjoint lest the corks, pads, skins, etc become waterlogged?

Might try looking for the Rubanks with the blue covers, and, while you're at it, a decent metronome.

Somebody else was saying pipe-thread tape can hold a flautist over until fish bladders and a visit to the tech.
