Re: Yamaha Picc

Offhand, I suspect they DO make an all composite, but I've not seen one with a plastic/ABS headjoint from Yamaha. You'd likely have to do a special order through an authorized Yamaha dealer. There is always the option of ordering a custom headjoint for the usual YPC-32. It would cost a bit more in t...

Re: Liebermann Sonata

In terms of technique? As in finger/articulation technique? Moderate. I played it as a sophomore/junior in my undergraduate the same time that I learned Nielsen. I learned it after I learned Ibert, but before Jolivet. It's difficulty is not in the finger technique but in sustaining a sense of melodi...

Re: How to make tongue faster?

Well, you have two main options. First, you could simply take speed. But drugs really aren't recommended. Or you could try this!

Re: Anyone Ever Hear of Musician's Focal Dystonia

I've unfortunately read quite a lot about performance injuries because they ended my playing career.... combined with a bad reaction to an antibiotic that damaged my wrist tendons... In most cases, Focal Dystonia is permanent/semi-permanent. It's where the insulation between two neurological pathway...

Let's not get too much closer to what is and is not considered 'manly.' Otherwise this sassy queen will have to use a hammer or mandrel to beat some sense into you whilst wearing glitter and mascara. ;)

Considering that the OP asked this question 13 years ago, I'm not sure they'll care anymore. Lol. But as for me, I'd have to say I'm pretty fabulous! ;)

Re: Can someone help me identify this flute??

And what's great about PP's advice is that he told you to get a D whistle (most common), and that bit of music is in D, so you should be able to learn it on your first whistle. Most of it centers on "A" but it's being played on a D whistle. I personally play on the tunable Susato whistles, but my be...

Re: Flute cork question

The feet cork/felt/silencer material is a part that has a dual function in the instrument's mechanics. It not only keeps the feet from clicking, but also helps regulate the key heights over the tonehole. As PP said, they're sold by thickness and in a sheet. JL Smith or Kraus Music Products are who I...

Re: Adhesive for cork

For emergency fixes, it's not a bad idea to keep a small tube of super glue in a gel form and a few toothpicks handy. You can paint the gel with the toothpick quite thinly and it doesn't get everywhere. I use a lot of different adhesives for different things, but in certain circumstances, I prefer s...

Re: lefreQue Sound Bridge

You know... acoustically speaking, I agree. It doesn't make sense whatsoever. But I was at a flute show recently and had the opportunity to listen in on a flute trial. It was a customer comparing their prospective pick against their current flute. I only did blind listening tests and there was a nig...

Re: Newbie on Artley Wilkins -- what headjoint?

Lets discuss it like a car. You're effectively comparing a Maserati to a Kia. And now you're wanting to put a Mercedes engine in the Kia, or have the kia engine rebuilt by someone so it runs more like a high end car. It doesn't make sense. Opt for a nice Lexus instead. For the amount of money you wo...

Re: Bought new Pearl flute... couple of questions and a hello!

You're probably right that it's likely to be a venting issue, particularly if E natural and D natural sound fine. My guess is that it needs to open more. I would also try the free route first. It's really just a few swipes of sandpaper under the cork to get it to open more. But then again, it's prob...
