Where are you flutistically?
I have been reading this forum for quite a while, and I've noticed that there are a lot of different ability/ experience levels here! I was just wondering where everyone is exactly on this very comprehensive scale that I found on Jennifer Cluff's site (http://www.jennifercluff.com/chart.htm). Thanks...

SmartMusic is a really, really cool program you can buy for your computer and they have the accompaniments to LOTS of repertoire pieces (including all of the Bach Flute Sonatas) built right in to play along with. You can also change tempos, record yourself, have the computer play it for you, use the...

I went to see the fireworks with a very close friend of mine on the 4th of July a couple of years ago. I went to her house to sleep over afterward, and she decided she felt like practicing flute. Not wanting to make me sit and be bored, she let me try her old closed-hole, silver-plated Gemeinhardt f...

Yep, I agree fluteguy18. I use this handy trick as well (and sometimes on other notes as well, like C natural). On my flute (Sankyo Silver Sonic) it does make quite a difference in intonation (which is very helpful for me since these notes are quite sharp for me . . . and I'm sure for many other peo...

1) What group do you play for?(college band, marching band, for fun) High school concert band, orchestra, and jazz band and a local area concert band. I try to just do things like concert band for fun . . . I'm planning on being a performance major in college, so I don't get to play "just for fun" ...

Hmm . . . that's certainly possible, too. The plating doesn't appear to be worn off, but maybe it was thin enough and I was sensitive enough that it was bothering my skin. I never use cleaners on my flute, so it couldn't be that. Maybe I constantly had residue on my hands from creams/lotions and tha...

I actually had the exact same problem. My skin would peel off terribly on all of the contact spots on my old flute. But my old flute was silver-plated , not nickel (Gemeinhardt 3B). My new flute is all sterling silver, and my hands have stopped peeling, so you may need that sterling silver if you ar...
