Re: Circular breathing / blowing?

But then she serves also as a best example of why Debost said "don't bother learning circular breathing / blowing, as the flute doesn't sound the same under this technique"... Maybe beauty is in the ears of the beholders? what do you mean about the circular breathing note sounding the same? ...

YOUR opinion on tone production and improvement

Hello!! Sorry if this topic has already been covered, I haven't found it so far on this forum but I might have missed it. Anyway, I've been thinking a lot lately about improving tone. Generally speaking, the typical advice is "do long notes/tones." Which, while very true, is not ery specific and sub...

There are other exam boards too. In Australia most people do exams with the AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board). Another good one is Trinity College London, they offer exams in Australia (not sure about USA). I do mine with them. It came to my attention recently that apparently people don't d...

These two have already been mentioned but: Sharon Bezaly Alexandra Grot These are the two I am listening to religiously at the moment. Of course I love a lot of other flute players, but apart from the obvious ones (Rampal, Moyse, etc) I can't even remember their names right now because I am SO into ...

Khatachurian Flute Concerto

What do people think of this concerto? I've recently become fascinated by it, what does everyone else think? I love the distinct folk Russian/Armenian feel to it! Also, any recommendations for recordings to listen to? Pahud did a good one and I LOVE Oistrakh's recording (although this is obviously v...

I really like Sharon Bezaly's interpretation of the Partita. She's fantastic.
Alexandra Grot also does a really good performance on Youtube of it, I'm not sure if she's recorded it for an album yet.

and Marc Hantai's version sounds lovely too, the Baroque flute is so beautiful!!!

Hi there! I was reading your blog and saw in an old post you were reading a book about "the development of the orchestral audition (focusing on the flute audition)" Do you remember which book it was? Do you have any other book recommendations for student flute players like yourself? Btw, I've been o...
