She was referring to intonation because she described it as a line all the way around the headjoint.

Etching on your flute

It was suggested to me that when I find that perfect combination in setting up my flute that I have a flute repair tech etch a line at the spot so I can easily assemble it in the future. I got to thinking about this and personally I don't think it's a good idea. Maybe if I'm practicing by myself it ...

Thanks fluteguy18. That does make a lot of sense when you think about it. I think I shall use some lighter fluid as the alcohol did not help.

The person I took it to is a flute repair technician. Has their own website and has been recommended to someone else on this board.

Thanks for the tip. I actually happen to have a couple of the lens towels laying around. I'll check this week at the music store for the powder paper.

Thanks :-)

That's what I thought. I did use cigarette paper and later with a bit of alcohol. I eventually took it to a flute repair tech and that is what they told me. Which confused me. I've been working on lessening how hard I press the keys. Mostly it's when I am practicing something fast that I tend to pre...

Pressing too Hard?

I was told a few days ago that pressing too hard on the keys would cause them to, as best as I can describe it, to making clicking/squishing noises. That the by pressing hard you cause the pads to dent and that causes the sound. I had thought that this noise was due to the pads being dirty. Thoughts...

I've been using Trevor Wye's "Beginner's Book for the Flute" and for me it seems that after introducing one or two notes it progresses from very low level to a harder level until the next note is introduced.

Assembled Flute Position

I'm curious as to how everyone assembles their flute. I've recently changed how I was assembling my flute so that it is more balanced. I was having trouble with the flute being supported by my left hand thumb, so when I moved my thumb the flute became unbalanced. It took me a couple days to find a p...

I just recently bought a flute from flute world. They are great. Before they sent my order they called me because they only had an inline version of one of the flutes I wanted to try so they wanted to know if I wanted to wait for the offset or try the inline.

Re: Strange Encounter at a Music Store

Regardless, I probably wouldn't be doing business with them any time soon. Dusk - I am definately not going back to that store. First of all, you were the victim of advertising. I have been to many music stores that say they have a selection, then half of the time they pull out an order catalog. Yo...

Strange Encounter at a Music Store

I had a confusing encounter at a local music store, and was curious to see everyones reaction. I went to a store to try out some of their flutes. Their website states that they carried a wide selection of beginner, intermediate, and professional flutes. So, I figured I would go and try out as many o...
