Re: A little update...

Thanks for all the congrats! I'm very excited (and relieved!) to be finished with that chapter of my life. My last couple of semesters consisted of some really intense science classes, so my brain is really hungering for some creative development right now. The flute lesson was wonderful! I had neve...

Re: A little update...

So how have you been liking your new flute now that you've had it for several months? I think you got your new flute about the same time I got mine? I've had my Miyazawa for about a month now, and I LOVE it! It was a bit tricky at first going from closed to open holes, but I've got that pretty much...

A little update...

Hey everyone! I haven't been on here in a while, but I wanted to stop in and say that I finally start flute lessons tomorrow! I'm so psyched! I had to take a break from flute-playing for pretty much all of December because of final exams, then graduation (got my B.S. in Environmental Science!), then...

Re: Something that makes me mad as a musician.

He says: Oh, we don't have the traditional music setting; no orchestra or ensembles. We use electronics to produce our music, that way the music industry will have use for them and they will have jobs. Sounds like that guy has a pretty closed-minded view of music. I mean there are so many different...

Re: Flute-Clarinet duets

There are a couple of flute/clarinet duet music books that I have .... I'll see if I can find the publisher for you. The 1st one is easy/intermediate and the 2nd is advanced. Is it the "78 duets for..."? I just ordered both from Flute World (the easy-med and the advanced). I also got a Christmas fl...

Re: Flute-Clarinet duets

I don't know why I didn't think to look at Flute World! I was looking at sheetmusicplus.com and finding a bunch of flute-oboe stuff. I was looking for intermediate-type stuff. Thanks ;)

Flute-Clarinet duets

I know a couple of clarinetists (is that what you call them?) who want to get together and play duets. I'm having some trouble finding music for us to play. Flute-oboe duets seem to be a lot more common. Can standard Bb clarinets play oboe music? I'm not sure about how other instruments transpose or...

I guess if the sauna is not turned on it wouldn't be a problem, right? Very interesting practice spot!

Re: NEW flute!!!

I will try adjusting the footjoint. It probably has something to do with my pinky being too short. When I stretch my pinky out it shifts my right ring and middle finger just slightly, so that they're not covering the holes right. I'll let you know how it goes. Congrats on your new Brannen! :) :) :)

Re: NEW flute!!!

I finally have the new Miyazawa back in my possession today! All polished up and looking gorgeous!! They adjusted the footjoint, so that's no problem anymore. Funny thing is I think I might sound better on my old nickel Bundy w/ CLOSED holes! Ha! I am still getting used to the open holes...kind of f...

Re: How do you organize your sheet music?

Here's what I ended up with...I found these cute carved wood magazine files at World Market. The one on the left is practice-type stuff like lesson books, etudes, scale sheets, fingering charts, along with some beginner music. The one on the right are my intermediate-advanced song sheets/books (the ...

Re: Staccato + slur = ??

Thanks for the great link! So, the notes are detached from one another, but without tonguing each note? One of the images in the link made me think of another theory question. Why is it that there are two "ties" or slur bars over the same notes? (see the first image on the page?). They are calling t...

Staccato + slur = ??

Music theory question...I know what stoccato is, and I know what a slur is, but what do you do with stoccato notes that are under a slur??

Re: Shakuhachi

I've had my eye on Erik's flutes for a while now, but I don't understand the different keys of the concert-tuned flutes. Is the fingering similar to the modern flute? Why are there different keys? And, once you figure out fingering can you play regular flute music with them?
