I have an Audio Technica Cardoid Condenser mic and a Tascam US-122 Audio/Midi/Whatever the hell it does sound transformer box thing (that's it's exact name :D ). So, for $250 dollars, can get a semi-professional recording system. Then, if you plug in a good pair of speakers (I use $50 Bose speakers)...

Might not be quite the same thing, but in my school days, I played clarinet in the concert band & orchestra. My ticket in to the jazz band was to learn the sax. Now, admittedly, it's less of a "stretch" to go from clarinet to sax than flute to sax (I speculate), but now (many years later) I can say...

About that example with the girl playing Chaminade: there are parents like that here too, they're not ALL Asian. I'm assuming her parents sit holding a metronome two feet away from her face for hours every night. Asian parents are just known for it more than other cultures. For example, if you searc...

Maybe she keeps rolling her flute in/our when she plays and doesn't notice it. Try making her hold it steady somehow. Like, hold it for her and just let her press the keys or something.

Well in that case, sorry to OP if I offended you.

But when I posted the link to ebay.com, I was actually being serious. If you want to sell your flute, that's the best place to do it.

Well I was exaggerating a bit the way I said it, but same concept. Asians have a way of raising their kids that is really tough and doesn't allow them to have time for things like social lives because they study and practice all the time.

You're probably right. But I'm not, so I figure I might as well keep contributing my sarcastic sense of humor.

I'll just go ahead and point out the fact that all the eight-year-olds that play Flight of the Bumblebee and Chaminade on Youtube are Asian kids that get beaten by their parents if they don't practice for at least 6 hours a day.

You'll call me racist, then you'll realize it's true.

If you go in as a sax player and the director doesn't want flute, you're giving yourself less of a chance of getting to play jazz flute than if you just argue with him/her every day until he/she breaks down. Anyways, learning the saxophone screws with your flute playing so it's a bad idea in the fir...

Official winner of the Most Illogical and Senseless Statement of the Year trophy goes to: If you are really interested in playing jazz flute, consider learning the sax. I played flute in the jazz band last year, I never got anything written out for me and it worked out fine. The only sheet music I g...

Wooden Piccolo Head Joints

So I'm wanting to get a wooden headjoint for my piccolo. I hava a Yamaha PC-82 (I think) and it's a wooden body with a silver headjoint. I've started playing in an orchestra and I don't feel that I get the right sound for it from a silver headjoint. I'm not about to invest in a new piccolo, but I wa...
