LOL, I will remember this when I turn fifty...look back and see how far I have come with my flute playing. I am enjoying it so much. Thanks for brightening my day.

Thank you, will do that with my warm-ups. I use to do that, but then we got into a certain type of warm-ups and certain songs, that I kind of quit doing that. Shouldn't of, I know...thank you for reminding me about it.

Actually, there isn't a piano within range to tune to, so he uses the bells (glockenspiel) to tune us by. The range sounds good. And we all warm up before class. He would love to find another place to rent and do the classes but so far hasn't been able to find anything that he could still charge all...

Thank you. The teacher doesn't do it with a tuner, he does it by ear. The room is so cold during the winter, that it is hard to get us in tune at all. The class is held in a backroom at a local music store. The heat has gone out and they store hasn't fixed it back there. I literally get there early ...

Thanks a bunch. I am going to go check out this site. I wouldn't of even tried lessons, if it wasn't for that I homeschool my two children and a newer music class came up at a local music store. The teacher is great and has been very enthusiastic about me being the class, he does point out how shy I...

Thank you, these are great tips. I do tune to where the teacher wants me, but usually when he tunes us, we don't have time to do too much before class starts and there is no place to go to try and see what my tuner says, so I just do what he says. Thank you again, this is really helping me.

Thank you, my tuner is a Korg too, but is a chromatic one, and I know the teacher tunes the flutes to Bb, but that didn't seem to be working with the tuner, so that is why I went to a natural note instead and I did notice that 442 seemed to do it better than 440, which I do with my guitar, which I h...

Tuning

In class, our teacher will tune our flutes by ear. The classroom is on the cold side, so it tunes differently than it does at home, where it is warmer. I have a chromatic tuner for my guitar. Can I use that to tune my flute with? And if so, should I have it set to 440 or 442? My flute was bought new...

I have been looking back and older posts and such for the past couple days, as I just joined about 2-3 days ago, and what you are doing, is what I have been doing. I have really only been playing seriously for 7 months. At home I do much better with my playing. I get in our class, which I am the onl...

We use the "Essential Elements" in our class. It shows the fingerings for each note, and gives theory along with it. It also can come with a cd & dvd of each song. In the beginning book, the cd plays the notes so you can hear what they should sound like. I like these books so much, that I have bough...

Our instructor says to play at least 5 days a week for 20-30 mins. at a time, to begin with. He says an hour is the best. Since I am a mother and adult, I find that some weeks I can get that in, and other weeks, I have a hard time. I can usually manage 4 days a week, at 30 mins. each time. Sometimes...

I have a Pearl flute, the 501 series, closed hole and I love it. I got it at music123.com. It was on sale and had originally been around $650, I think, and I got it for $350. I think they have it on a closeout sale right now. It is silverplated and has a beautiful rich sound. I highly recommend a Pe...

Let's see, I played in 5th or 6th grade. I am not sure I even did a whole year or not. Don't remember. Never picked it up again until Sept. of 2004, when I enrolled my children in a band lesson at a local music store. I am 40 now.I don't remember anything about what I had learned before, except I wa...

Playing tense and relaxation excercises?

I am a 40 yr. old woman, who just in the past 7 months have been taking flute lessons in a music class where my children are learning clarinet and violin. We are finished using the first book and will be starting on the second book and the teacher is calling us "intermediate" now and not beginners....
