I would say that you should stick to the flute you have now, unless it is closed holes. I have also been playing for 5 years, and I am probably getting a new flute(Yamaha 481) on saturday( :D ) so i think you are probably fine with the one you have now.

I think that it is both. In certain songs it comes in really really usefull, but then other times i feel like throwing it out of the sears tower or the empire state building....LoL!! :roll:

I agree with sneeble. Just concentrate on the note, make you "lip hole" smaller, and blow. It may be hard at first, but work at it! ;)

well what i suggest is what i use. See, I am getting ready to play a telleman piece (suite in a minor?) and that goes ver fast, and slow. What i suggest is to go over a little section at a time, and play till u get it right. If that means changing the tempo from 140(?) to 60, do it, it will help. Wo...

oh my goodness I know what you mean!! I had to play in our christmas concert (with like ummm idk 600 people saring at me!) and at the christmas eve service, playing 12 songs for two prelude services!! i am almost too glad its over!!

Well, I have played the flute for....5 years, and my brother started to play the alto sax this year. I have fiddled around with it, and have learned that I can not only play it better than he can, but i can also play to the end of the book (standard of excellence, volume one) without any lessons. I had braces in the fourth grade, when I started the flute. It was a little difficult at first, just getting used to the feeling, but it really does not affect your playing. Having a broken arm however... :wink: [whoops..]
