They sell plugs for that purpose. Also, many flutes come with plugs. Ask when you purchase the flute.

Buying online does not subject you to sales tax. It is the sellers responsibility to pay taxes on items sold (the one making the money). Some sellers charge sales tax while others do not. Individuals selling do not have to charge a sales tax, businesses do. Buy away!

There is a LOT more to replacing pads than just screwing them in. They need to be fitted, leveled, clamped, etc. in order to get a good fit. It is best to leave this up to a trained tech who spends a great deal of time learning how to do it properly.

I just paid $850 for a new one from my local retailer of choice, but keep in mind that I get a substantial discount for my program. My experiences (and curiosity) in this ended up with a flute that played well for about a month. The keys bend very easily (even when it is in the case) and it is impossible to keep adjusted. Too bad since it really does have a nice tone. It is now in my junk pile.

One of the reasons sellers of these (and other) flutes have good feedback is that in many cases, the initial reaction is a nice sounding, inexpensive instrument. The problems usually start to show up later on (after a few months).

The only issue I have seen with a C# trill is that it is something else that can leak (often bent easily) even on the highest end flutes. I have several colleagues who have had this problem. But then again, I am pretty old school on this stuff.
