Jazz Addiction (New Flute Music)

I do soul jazz on flute. Just wanted to share my new single, Jazz Addiction. https://soundcloud.com/sou-15/jazz-addiction-jef-kearns-1 It's the follow up to my 2014 album, Soulfisticated, which hit #1 Best Seller "Soul Jazz" and #2 "Contemporary R&B" on Amazon. You can check it out and some reviews ...

Re: Older beginner struggling with middle octave!

Great that you picked it up. Stuff like that is kind of difficult to describe in words, but if you go on YouTube there are people giving instruction ... some of them are offering bad technique. I would recommend Nina Perlove's channel. Here's her vid on sound production http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Do you have a preferred flute/hj for different music gen

I've never really thought about it.

I guess it's not as easy/cheap as a saxophone player who can just switch reeds so it isn't often done.

For me, at least, it's more about the way you play the notes than what you play them on for different styles.

Flute love song

Hey everyone. I released this love song to the flute on Valentine's Day. I can't remember if I posted it up on here but it appears I haven't. Anyway, just wanted to share it. It's been getting decent views, and sales so I must be doing something right ;-) It has a jazzy hip hop vibe. http://jefkearn...

Re: microphones for flute

This is what the producer says:

"Sm58 in the front is correct. The one in the back is an apex 435 (much cheaper than u87)...

The Apex is not actually in the back on this track it's just towards the bottom of the flute to capture other frequencies."

Re: microphones for flute

Thanks for the response.

It was definitely used. I will ask the producer how he mixed it and what each does.

Re: microphones

From what I've heard the video on the Zooms isn't that great unless the lighting is.

Sony stereo condenser mic plugged into an iPhone does wonders.

Re: microphones for flute

I tend to record in stereo to get a better tonal range. A condenser mic (with wind screen) in front of me, and a mic above and off to the side works well. I'm not sure which mic we were using here.

Re: New flute, budget limit $1100, need advice!

Probably a bit late to this one but just try a bunch in your price range. There are definitely some tried and true brands but it's also about which one feels most comfortable and you sound best on.
